EMC 48 SQUADRONS and SCHWARME FRAME 1

EMC 49 Frame 1 got underway late, mostly due to setup prblems. At frame start, 8 Betties with wingmen took off from the japanese bases in China, escorted by about 14 Zeros., while allies aircrews on the ground were still unaware that anything was happening.

Allied fighters were alerted at t+15 to the enemy's presence and took to the skies in their P40 fighters, sometimes with some difficulty (titan, you reading this? :))

Nothing much happened afterwards as both sides moved towards their respective targets. At t+30, an advance japanese force reached Clark field and engaged enemy fighters there with one kill reported, while the Betties moved in from the north close behind.

By t+45, the Betties had attacked, and Clark field was heavily damaged. However, the Betties also had suffered severe losses.

The japanese returned to base after the strike, and the usual lull before the second hour took place.

At t+60, japanese recon aircraft sighted two capital ships, and bombers were loaded with torpedoes and sent enroute with an escort of Zero fighters.

At t+85 the Betties hit Force Z. During the course of the attack, the Prince of Wales was hit by multiple torpedoes, sank. Several betties however were downed by ack, presenting huge targets to the AAA gunners. A dogfight between british planes and Zero escorts took place over Force Z with the british holding the upper hand, however, they failed to intercept the Betties.

RESULTS
Summing up, this frame for the japanese side was characterized by well carried out bombing and torpedo missions and heavy losses in the bomber force. In the kill department, the japanese also did better than the allies, despite the fact that the allies had easy targets with the Betties. In the light of this, the frame is scored as a minor IJN victory.

Thanks too all pilots who participated and especially The Commander of the Emperor; Flower-san, and Allied Leaders 'on the fly'.
